Argentinean navy officers disagreed with decisions of their president according to Dutch newspapers in 1959

The newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated Saturday 25 July 1959 wrote that the office of the Argentinean president Frondizi (1) announced that the minister of navy vice admiral Estevez the evening before resigned. This was a result of his decision to arrest vice admiral Vago chief operations and to replace him by rear admiral [Jorge] Perren. The edition of two days later reported that Frondize made the minister of war Adolfo Estevez temporarily responsible for the naval affairs.

The newspaper Amigoe di Curacao dated 27 July 1959 confirmed the item published in the newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated Saturday 25 July adding that after the dismissal of Vago the naval bases Puerto Belgrano, Mar del Plata and Rio-Santiago announced that they supported Vago. This announcement caused a meeting between Frondizi, minister of defence Villar [Justo Vilar], Anaya and several high ranker naval officers resulting in the firing of Estevez. The edition dated 16 July reported that on Thursday high ranked twelve officers threatened with retirement. A day earlier told president Frondizi them to have a full believe in the minister despite their arguments against him. Estevez himself was also vice admiral and was accused by his fellow officers to support that part of the navy which was loyal to Juan Peron.
