Mexican and American privateers according to the Dutch newspaper Dagblad van ‘s Gravenhage dated 1 January 1847

The Mexican government supplied letters de marque without paying attention to the international law. As a result of this neglecting were the USA free to consider this so-called privateers as pirates. The American president advised to take immediately measures against the Spanish citizens being busy with privateering while Mexico seemed especially turned to Cuba for sending out privateers. At the same time was it proposed to fit out privateers against Mexico.
