Privateers of Tripoli harassing the Archipelago according to the Dutch magazine De Maandelyksche Nederlandsche Mercurius April 1766

A tiding from Smyrna reported that the trade there was thriving and that ships did not have to wait long for a well full cargo especially of cotton. There seemed to be three chebecqs of Tripoly cruising in the Archipelago which despite the peace treaty with Venice captured four Venetian ships which were not expecting such an act. Witnesses of this event were some Turkish people which were on board of the Venetian la Liberta Veneta which was stopped off Modon and robbed from their money and belongings.
