Russian warship spying in Swedish harbour on the east coast of Gotland according to the Dutch newspaper De Nederlander dated 14 December 1853

At Helsingfors were 10,000 sailors collected and nine ships of the line destined for this port for an earlier departure towards sea than the ice in the port of Kronstadt would allow. A tiding reported that recently a Russian warship entered a Swedish temporarily harbour on the East coast of Gotland signalling for help and asking victuals while she was lacking everything. During the rest of the day was she busy with surveying and was the next morning when the victuals arrived disappeared. The newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 10 December confirmed this item.
