Admiral Oikawa became the Japanese minister of navy according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Apeldoornsche Courant dated 5 September 1940

An item dated Tokyo 5 September 1940 reported that admiral Kosjiro Oikawa accepted his appointment as minister of navy. (1) The newspapers Algemeen Handelsblad and De Tijd both dated 5 September and the Eindhovensche en Meijerijsche Courant dated 6 September confirmed this item.

The Eindhovensche en Meijerijsche Courant dated 5 September published an item dated Tokyo 4 September announcing that his predecessor vice admiral Zengo Yosjida (2) had resigned due to his health problems. The newspaper De Tijd dated 4 September confirmed this item.

1. Oikawa (16 February 1883 Morioka, Iwate-9 May 1958), retired from active duty on 5 September 1945. Minister of navy between 5 September 1940 and 18 October 1941 and Naval Counsel until the end of the Second War and was in the end of 1944 also appointed as Chief of the Navy General Staff.
2. Yoshida (14 February 1885 Saga prefecture-14 November 1966), minister of navy since 30 August 1939 retired of his health. Between December 1943 and 1 June 1945 member of the Supreme War Council. He was a strong opponent of attacking the USA and the pact with Germany and Italy.
