Russia and USA building giant submarines according to the Dutch newspaper De Tijd dated 6 February 1915

An item reported that Russia intended to built a hyper modern dreadnought submarine with a displacement of 4.500 tons and a speed of 21 (surfaced)-12 (submerged) nautical miles. The USA intended to same although a ‘much smaller’ submarine of just 3.000 tons.(1)

The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 18 July 1913 reported before about the 5.400 tons Russian submarine although now calling her a submersible cruiser/dreadnought also to be used as a minela yer and able to make a minefield of 120 mines and armed with torpedoes.
