An item reported tat again fifty ship carpenters were sent from Paris to Italy to calfate the gunboats which were sent over land. The damage was caused by shrinking of the wood. For this reason ordered the emperor the Construction of iron-built boats. The same edition reported that according to private tidings received from Milan dated the 4th the first gunboats were launched at Dessenzano. They were ordered to attack the Austrian steamboats which were transporting ammunitions and victuals to Mantua. The carpenters were under continuous artillery fire although without much success. The edition dated the 28th published an item dated the 21st reporting that the French gunboat which were brought to the Garda Lake were sold to the government of Piedmont for each 50.000 francs.(1)

1. Piedmont tired to gain her independency form the Austrian empire and in 1859 defeated with French aid Austria at Solferino. Piedmont belonged to the House of Savoy and was part of the Kingdom Sardinia-Piedmont. This house delivered later the kings of Italy.
