Indonesian cabinet militarizing merchant ships acoording to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarder Courant dated 14 February 1962

An item reported that a day earlier the Indonesian cabinet militarized 8 merchant ships of the government shipping companies Pelni and Djarkarta Lloyd as a result of the West-Irian situation.(1)

1. This is West Papua or Western New Guinea between 1660 and 1962 the Dutch colony Netherlands NewGuinea which the former Dutch colony Indonesia tried using military force to take over this part of the island. Finally the Netherlands accepted an mediation by the UN ending in an Indonesian annexation of the area.
