Almost all US navy destroyers aged according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1933 no. 6



The USS destroyer Ward is an example of such an aged destroyer. Laid down and launched in 1918 served she until 1944 when she was destroyed by a Japanese kamaikaze air attack.

An item referred to the magazine Proc. dated August 1933 reporting that on short 4-1.500 ton destroyers were to be laid down. With a speed of more as 35 knots were they to have a range of 1.500 mails with a speed of 15 knots. Of the 251 destroyers with a total tonnage of 267.470 tons the US navy possessed at that moment just the Decatur, Perry, Trever and Wasmuth which did not passed the age limit. The Royal British navy possessed 159 destroyers with a total tonnage of 1808.404 tons including 43 (total 56.974) modern and the Imperial Japanese navy possessed 102 destroyers( totally 121.065 ton) including 71 (totally 92.383 ton) modern.
