An item referred to the magazines Revue Maritime dated January 1933 and the Marine Rundschau dated February 1933 reporting that on 14 October 1932 at Brest the French submarines Le Centaure and Le Héros were launched with a displacement of 1.379 (surfaced)-1.968 (submerged) tons although the Marine Rundschau claimed respectively 1.650 and 2.000 tons and as dimensions 92,3 x 8,16 x 4,7 metres.(1) Their speed was 10 (submerged)-17 (surfaced) knots. The armament consisted of 1x4-55cm cm and 1x3-55cm torpedo tubes on the aft deck and 1x4-55cm to be used as bow and stern torpedo tubes, 1-10 cm gun, 1-3,7cm anti aircraft gun and 1 machine gun. Horsepower 2.000 (submerged)-6.000 (surfaced). Their sister ship Le Glorieux was launched on 29 November 1932 and the Le Conquérant and Le Tonnant were still on stocks.

The magazine Proc. dated January 1933 reported that the two French submarines Ouessant and Sidi Ferruch were laid down at Cherbourg as part of the Redoutable-class of which class on short note 25 units were to be available. Building costs each 46.000.000 francs. With a horsepower of 5.600 hp allowing a speed 10 (submerged)-18 (surfaced) knots and an armament consisting of 1-14cm gun and 14 torpedo tubes.
