Mine laying vessels within the Italian navy according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1933 no. 5

An item referred to the magazine N.&M. Rec. dated 14 June reporting that the main part of the Italian cruisers and destroyers were carrying mines. In 1925 was also a flotilla minelayers with a displacement of 600-800 ton built. The ten ships of the Azio-class carried totally 2.000 mines and were in fact copies of the French minelayers Cerbère and Pluton. These minelayers were especially suitable for the Mediterranean to be used for nightly laying minefield off the coasts of the enemy.
