An item reported that the French navy reorganized her submarine service by adding the submarines to homogeneous considered speed, armament etc.
In the Mediterranean was added to the battle fleet the 1st squadron based at Toulon consisting of 2 destroyers and 8 steam-propelled submarines (2 divisions, 2 reserve) namely the Mouge, Ampère, Gay-Lussac, Papin, Cugnoy, Fresnel, Messidor and the Giffard and further more the Bizerte based 2nd squadron consisting of 2 destroyers and 9 diesel propelled engines (2 divisions, 3 reserve) namely the Circe, Calypso, Paraday, Jouie, Berhouille, Coulomb, Arago, Curie and the Le Verrier.
In the north were three squadron. Two squadrons based at Cherbourg. The 1st squadron consisting of 3 destroyers and steam propelled submarines (2 or 3 divisions depending on the number of available submarines) consisting of the Archimède, Watt, Fructide, Berthelot, Floréal, Prairial, Thermidor, Pluviose, Ventose and Germinal. Ab the 3rd squadron consisting of 2 destroyers and the 5 diesel propelled submarines Mariotte, Admiral Bourgeois, Franklin, Clorinde and Cornélie. At Calaias was the 2nd squadron based with 2 destroyers and 8 submarines of the Burmaire kind (2 divisions, 2 reserve) consisting of the Nivose, Brumaire, Trimaire, Volta, Foucaut, Newton, Montgolfier and the Euler.
