An item dated Santiago 7 December referred to a tiding received from the naval authorities in the small port Papudo near Valparaiso that the crew of the British steamship Charcas was set on land by the German auxiliary cruiser Prins Eitel Friederich. The Charcas was destroyed off Corral by the German ship.(1)
