She was laid down on 5 July 1943 at the Federal Shipbuilding&Drdock Co. at Port Newark, USA as the USS Gustafson (DD 182) for the US navy, launched on 3 October and commissioned on 1 November, decommissioned on 27 January 1946 at Green Cove Springs, Florida, stricken on 26 June, commissioned in the Royal Netherlands Navy on 23 October 1950, de commissioned on 12 July 1951, recommissioned on 6 December 1954 and on 3 April 1956 again decommissioned and in the reserve. Not earlier decommissioned on 5 March 1962 and stationed in the Netherlands Antilles. On 14 May 1965 again decommissioned, stricken on 24 October 1967 and sold (profits for the USA) to the N.V. Brugse Scheepssloperij at Brugge, Belgium sold to be broken up and for which destination she left Den Helder on 28 March 1968. This former American Destroyer Escort of the Cannon-class formed with sister ships the Dutch Van Amstel-class. With a displacement of 1.240 ton and as dimensions 93,2 (over all) x 11,2 (maximum) x 3,3 metres. Speed 21 knots. Her crew numbered 220 men. The armament consisted of 3-76,cm guns, 6-4cm guns, 8-2cm Oerlikon guns, hedgehog, 3x dept chargers and 3-21” torpedo tubes.
