An item dated New York 7 May referred to the American newspaper New York Herald Tribune which wrote that the American merchant shipping was in serious problems due to lacking enough personnel and that departures of ships was delayed. Several ships left the harbours without the usual crew numbers. Especially engine room personnel was not enough available.
