Colombian privateers versus Spanish navy according to the Nederlandsche Staatscourant dated 14 January 1822
London, 8 January. Letters from Havana dated 26 November reported that a large number privateers of the Independents were crossing off the Cuban coasts and that all efforts of the Spanish navy to drive them off were probably useless. According to the rumours did these privateers capture two merchant ships with refugees from Vera Cruz with all their properties on board. Among their prizes were two American ships of Boston, which were totally plundered of everything of value but finally were released. There were also 6 African slavers captured, the slaves set on land and the ships fitted out as privateers.
