Hillegonda arrived 21 December at Batavia coming from the West Coast of
Sumatra with letters dated 26 November. After the arrival of 204 inland
soldiers with the Voorduin succeeded the commanding officer in forcing the rebels
to retreat out of Batang Kapas. The brigantine Rotte was coming from Baros with
a cargo including 7 casks white, 100 casks barriga and 233 cakes black bensuin
and her crew was forced to beach her ¼ mile above Ticou while she was leaking.
Fearing the natives her crew fled leaving behind 5 sailors, 2 guards and the
deputy master. Three of the 5 sailors were murdered, the others returned in
safety with 3 swivels.
