Augsburg, 28 October. According to letters from Alexandria dated begin September were the Egyptian troops in board of the warships and transports harassed by contagious diseases. The ships were part of the squadron commanded by Ismaïl Gibraltar and in the meantime lost a considerable number of men their lives. Hundreds of sick men were sent from Rhodes to Alexandria. The pasha of Egypt was in a bad temper caused by the behaviour of the Turkish Captain Pasha who ordered to commanding officer of the Egyptian expedition to listen strictly to him while he was appointed by the sultan with the supreme command over the land- and sea operations against the Greeks. The result was that the pasha ordered his son Ismaïl Gibraltar to neglect the Captain Pasha while sending his representative to the sultan at Constantinople to complain about what happened.
