Chile ordered building of two giant battleships according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië daily edition dated 17 July 1911

According to the newspaper Evening Standard intended to Chilean government to order two giant battleships larger and stronger as the battleships of other navies. The building costs of each was amounted on 30,000,000 Dutch guilders. Their displacement was to be 30,000 tons and the armament to consist of 10-37,5cm guns. The British battleships were then armed with 10-32,5cm guns so the calibre of the Chileans was quite heavier. The most important British and continental yards already sent tenders. This newspaper thought that a British firm should obtain while the Chilean government wanted a delivery on short term. (1)
