An item dated Den Helder the 20th reported the presence of an Austrian squadron on the roads and that a day earlier the gunboat Seehund entered the harbour for necessary repairs. On the other ships were also a large number of ships carpenters and blacksmiths active. Many merchants at Den Helder earning good money were so pleased with the squadron that Austrian coins were accepted by everyone as a legal tender. Daily came large numbers of Austrian sailors on land and according to the rumours was on coming Sunday the half of the crews of the six ships with a total of 1.500 men would get shore leave. Until then went very well.(1)
