Dutch bark Jan Pieterszoon Koen bought by the firm De Groof&Co. at Vlissingen, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 27 January 1887

An item reported that De Groof&Co. bought the bark ship Jan Pieterszoon Koen (1) and appointed G. Spanjer as her captain. She measured 675 register tons and was the last years used in the petrol trade. Another newspaper the Zierikzeesche Nieuwsbode dated 1 February 1887 that De Groof&Co. at Vlissingen, Netherlands despite the malaise in the shipping bought at Rotterdam the bark ship Jan Pieterszoon Koen to be used on the oceanic trace. Spanjer now captain of the Margretha which also was owned by this firm would become captain of the Jan Pieterszoon Koen. The firm further possessed the bark Jean Baptiste now lyiing at Haiti and the Lucie and Elisabeth the latter both laid up for the winter.
