Dutch bark Maria Diederiks arrived at Den Helder, Netherlands returning from the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Heldersche Courant dated Saturday 12 January 1866

An item dated Den Helder, Netherlands the 12th reported that on Wednesday the Dutch bark ship Maria Diederiks captain A, van Marion underway from Java, Dutch East Indies towards Rotterdam, Netherlands arrived leaking. She was loaded with coffee, sugar, tin and retting. Badly leaking was her captain forced to ask two British fishing vessels to assist him, costs 600 pound sterling. And if possible to bring him to a safe harbour or otherwise to save the crew and as much a possible of the cargo.
