Movements of Dutch warships around Vlissingen, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 6 December 1831

Zr.Ms. Zeeuw

An item dated Vlissingen, Netherlands the 5th reported the departure out of the Dokhaven of the Dutch ship of the line Zr.Ms. Zeeuw, (1) the corvettes Zr.Ms. Medusa (2) and Zr.Ms. Komeet (3) and the steam packet Zr.Ms. Suriname.(4) On the 4th arrived on the roads the Dutch brig Zr.Ms. Echo (5) commanding officer W.A. Geesteranus.(6)

1. Ship of the line 1st class, laid down at the navy yard at Vlissingen, Netherlands on 24 August 1819 by C. Soetermeer, launched on 16 August 1825, after 1859 rebuilt as the floating battery Jupiter. Displacement 3.245 tons, dimensions 57,5 (between perpendiculars) x 14,9 x 6,46 (fore)-7,12 (aft) metres, sail areas 2.327 square metres, an armament of 84 guns and a crew numbering 700 men.
2. Bomb corvette, on stocks at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1825 by P. Glavimans Jz.20, launched 1827, stricken 1835, sold and broken up at Vlissingen in 1836, dimensions 36,23 (loadline) x 10,06 (inner hull) x ,25 (fore)-4,81 (aft) x 5,25 (depth below maindeck) and an armament of 2-29”mortars, 20-12pd carronades, 2-6pd guns. If these corvettes were not fitted out with mortars consisted the armament of 20-30pd carronades and 2-6pd guns.
3. Also called Comeet, ‘so-called ‘kuil’corvette, on stocks at navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands by P. Glavimans Jz. In February or 4 March 1817, launched 28 November 1818, stricken 1836, dimensions 130 x 34 1/11 x 17 8/11 (hold) feet and an armament of 28 guns
4. Paddle steamship, on stocks at the navy yard at Vlissingen , Netherlands 1827, launched on 24 July 1828, broken up 1837, 810 tons displacement.
5. Brig, on stocks at the navy yard at Rotterdam, Netherlands 1824, launched 28 March 1827, stricken 1853, dimensions 31,50m x 9,50m x 4,50m, 546 tons displacement, 18 guns.
6. On 25 August 1830 started a revolt in what afterwards become the independent kingdom of Belgium but at that moment since 1815 still part of the kingdom of the Netherlands. On 4 October 1830 declared the Belgians their independence, on 21 July 1831 was their first king installed. Not earlier as in 1839 accepted the Netherlands the consequences (Treaty of London). France and England supported the Belgians in their desire for independence.
