British screw steam gunboat HMS Firebrand arrived at Batavia, Dutch East Indies coming from the Cocos Islands according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 23 July 1888

An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies 21^st reported the arrival of the British war steamship Firebrand captain Denison coming from the Cocos Islands.(1)
