An item reported
that in the night the American corvette USS Canandaigua commanded by Jos. St.
Strong passed Vlissingen, Netherlands underway towards Antwerp, Belgium,
probably coming from Lisbon, Portugal.(1)

commissioned on 1 August 1862, renamed Detroit
on 15 May 1869, retained her original name on 10 August 1869, decommissioned on
8 November 1875 and finally broken up in 1884. The armament consisted of 2-11’/28xm
smoothbore guns, 1-8”/20cm smoothbore guns and 3-20pd rifles.
