German submarines towed into Ijmuiden, Netherlands according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 22 March 1919

An item reported that the same morning the Dutch steam trawler IM 490 (Per D.) arrived at Ijmuiden, Netherlands while towing the German submarine 653. The submarine of large dimensions and without a crew on board and apparently brand new was on Tuesday morning at 10.00 o’clock 15 miles west north west of light buoy 5 find floating. The trawler managed her tow towards Ijmuiden despite that twice the towing line broke. She was quite lying deep in the water so it was expected that her engines were still on board. She was berthed in the inner canal near another some time ago salvaged submarine. The Dutch sail lugger KW 170 (Willem Leendert) reported by arrival at Ijmuiden that they sighted a floating also abandoned German submarine on the position 53.3 north and 4 east. The towed her for 24 hours when the line broke and the submarine was since then not seen again. This submarine also of large dimensions was marked 345. According to reports of ships were in the last week at least 13 German submarines over the North Sea towed towards British harbours.
