An item dated Washington, USA 5th reported that secretary Daniël (1) that the main task of the US navy was to protect the shipping lines towards France to be able to transport soldiers and ammunition to the warfront and food for the allies. The department of treasury reported that despite the submarine attacks the insurance premiums for officers and sailors of the merchant shipping were not raised. In contrary they dropped from 25 tot 15 cent each 100 dollar.
