American screw steam sloop USS Brooklyn arrived at Batavia, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 14th February 1887

An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies 11th reported the arrival of the USS Brooklyn coming from the East.(1)

1. Laid down at the shipyard of Jacob A. Westervelt and Son in 1857, launched on 1858, commissioned on 26 January 1859, decommissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 14 May 1889, stricken on 6 January 1890 and finally sold at the Norfolk Navy Yard on 25 March 1891.  The armament consisted of 1-10”smoothbore gun and 20-9” smoothbore guns.
