British warships Audacious, Champion, Cleopatra, Heroine, Linnett and Swift visiting Batavia, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Java-bode dated 29th March 1887

An item dated Batavia, Dutch East Indies 28th reported the arrival of the British warships Audacious (1) captain Harris, Champion (1) captain Powlett, Cleopatra (3) captain Keppel, Heroine (4) captain Churchill, Linnet (5) captain Marrack and the Swift (6) captain Bromley coming from Singapore.

Notes
1. Battleship launched down at the shipyard of Napier on 27 February 1869, depot ship since 1902, renamed Fisgard in April 1904, training ship since 1 January 1906, became a repair ship and renamed Imperieuse in 1914 and finally sold on 12 March 1927.
2. Screw steam corvette launched at the shipyard of Elder on 1 July 1878, harbour service since 1904, known as (Old) Champion since 1915 and finally sold on 23 June 1919.
3. Screw steam corvette launched at the shipyard of Elder on 1 August 1878, harbour service since 1905, renamed Defiance III in January 1922 and finally sold on 26 June 1931.
4. Composite screw steam corvette launched at the Devonport Dockyard on 3 December 1881 and finally sold on 28 August 1902.
5. Composite screw steam gun vessel launched at the shipyard of Thames Ironworks on 30 January 1880 and as the salvage vessel Linnet sold on 27 April 1904.
6. Composite screw steam gun vessel launched at the shipyard of Green, Blackwall on 29 November 1879, ordered to be sold at Hong Kong on 4 February 1902. Became the merchant ship Swift and was later renamed Hoi Ching.
