Dutch screw steamship 1st class Zoutman bound for Padang, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche staatscourant dated 1 June 1866

An item referred to a tiding dated 14 April 1866 supplying more details dealing with the activities of the ships belonging to the Dutch squadron in the Dutch East Indies. The Dutch screw steamship Zoutman (1) captain J. van der Meersch arrived on 5th April coming from the Japanese waters and was now bound for Padang, Sumatra, Dutch East Indies.

Screw steamship 1st class, wood-built, call sign GRDH, laid down at the navy yard at Amsterdam, Netherlands on 5 November 1859, launched in the afternoon of 20 September 1861, commissioned on 16June 1862, and condemned/stricken and broken up in 1871. Building costs ƒ 758.414,12. Displacement 2.030 tons, as dimensions 58,00 (between perpendiculars rudderstock-screw) -62,84 (over all) x 12,25 x 5,50 metres, horsepower of 250 hp, a crew numbering 250 men and an armament consisting of 8 long 30 pd guns and 8-16 cm rifled guns. Her engines seemed in 1874 to be used for the Zr.Ms. Van Galen.
