Dutch brig 1st class Zr. Ms. Cachelot stationed at Ambon, Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Nederlandsche Staatscourant 14 April 1859

An item reported that the Dutch brig Zr. Ms. Cachelot (1) departed on 13 October 1858 from Amboina, Dutch East Indies towards Banda, Dutch East Indies to transport vaccinated children while at Banda was harassed by smallpox and was lacking enough vaccinia. On the 17th arrived she at Banda and returned on 21st at Ambon underway executing some deep sea surveys. The whole month November was used for training and gun exercises. On 28 November arrived the Dutch corvette Zr. Ms. Pallas (2)at Ambon coming from Batavia, Dutch East Indies to strengthen the station. On 15 December departed the Cachelot to sea cruising towards Banda, Ternate and Kema via Strait Manipa and the north east coast of Celebes executing deep sea surveys. While Banda still was suffering from small ox was a number of vaccinated children with supporting personnel brought to the island. She was expected to return begin February at Ambon.(1)
