Of the admiralty Amsterdam, also called frigate, built at by John May at naval yard Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1770, completed in 1773, captured by British but lost near Ameland, Netherlands in 1799, dimensions (Amsterdam foot) 125 7/11 x 34 x 13 2/11, an armament of 24 guns and a crew numbering 158-163 men. Commanding officers 1782 captain Silvester, 1787-1789 captain A. Cuvel, 1788-1789 voyage from Batavia, Dutch East Indies to the Cape Good Hope, South Africa and 1799 captain Aegidius van Braam.
