Large German shipbuilding program being executed increased according to the Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 6 December 1900

Siegfried-classe costal defence ships ( Siegfried, Beowulf, Frithjof, Heimdall, Hildebrand, Hagen)

An item reported that at the moment 15 ships for the German Navy were being included 8 battleships and 2-1st class cruisers at the naval and private shipyards at Kiel, Danzig and Wilhelmshaven. Further more were at Elbing several torpedo boats and monitors being built and 8 ships of the Siegfried type modernized. The German cabinet trusted that the Reichstag would approve a new budget needed for building gunboats and special vessels to be used on the Chinese rivers.
