France not claiming tonnage of battleships equal to that of Japan according to the Dutch newspaper Het Vaderland dated 24 November 1921

An item referred to the newspaper Temps which reported that in contrary to what American newspaper claimed the French delegates at Washington, USA used the French naval shipbuilding program of 1922 as start point for the discussions. The American newspapers claimed that France demanded a tonnage of battleships similar to that of Japan.(1)

1. The Washington Naval Conference held between November 1921-February 1922 with as result the Washington Naval Treaty or Five-Power Treaty ratified 17 August 1923.
