British destroyer HMS Spitfire launched at Elswick, England according to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1895-1896 No. 6

An item reported the launching on 7th June at Armstrong of the destroyer Spitfire of the Swordfish-design (built at the same shipyard) with a displacement of 165 tons and as dimensions 61 x 5,80 x 1,60 (aft) metres. Machinery consisted of 2 vertical triple expansion steam engines and 8 water tube boilers delivering 4.000 ihp allowing a minimum speed of 27 miles. The armament consisted of 1-7,5cn/2.9”/75 pd quick firing guns, 5-5,7cm/2”/6 pd quick firing guns and 2 torpedo tubes.(1)

1. Of the Swordfish-class consisting of the Swordfish and Spitfire, preceded by the Sturgeon-class and succeeded by the Zebra-class. Lais down at Armstrong, Mitchell&Co., Elswick, Tyne and Wear, England in 1894, laid down on 7 June 1895, commissioned in July 1895, decommissioned in and sold in 1912.
