British protected cruiser HMS Europa prepared for service on China station according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijsch handelsblad dated 17 October 1903

HMS Diadem

An item dated Singapore 17th reported that the British cruiser Europa was fitted out at Portsmouth, England with as destination China. Further more was also a battleship sent to the Chinese waters.(1)

1. Of the Diadem-class protected cruiser. Launched at J&G Thompson, Clydebank, Scotland on 20 March 1897, refitted in 1902, sold on 15 September 1920 to be rebuilt as a emigrant carrier, sunk in January 1921 and later salvaged and broken up at Genoa, Italy.
