Brazilian steam corvette Almirante Barroso planned to visit the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 4 March 1884


An item reported that the Brazilian steam corvette Almirante Barrozo captain Custades José de Mello left on 27th October 1888 Rio Janeiro for a training voyage of 2 years with the intention to visit in August 1889 Batavia, Dutch East Indies. On board was lieutenant 2nd class prince Dora August of Saxon, grandson of the Brazilian emperor.(1)

1. Laid down at Arsenal de marinha, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 1 March 1880, launched on 17 April 1882, commissioned on 13 July 1882 and sunk while making a voyage around the world.
