Germany claiming sinking British battleship [HMS Barham] by German submarine according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van het Noorden dated 29 December 1939

An item dated Berlin, Germany 29th referred to a statement of the chief in command of the German armed forces reporting that a German submarine sunk west of Scotland a British battleship of the Queen Elizabeth-class.(1)

1. The HMS Barham was torpedoed by the German submarine U-30 on 28 December 1939 when patrolling off the Butt of Lewis, buts she able to reach Birkenhead, England. Of the Queen Elizabeth-class consisting of the Queen Elizabeth, Malaya, Warspite, Valiant, Barham, Malaya and the in 1914 cancelled Agincourt.
