British battleships and armoured cruisers active in the Far East Region according to the Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 11 February 1904

An item dated Hong Kong 11th reported that the British battleships Albion (1), Vengeance (2) and Centurion (3) and the cruiser Leviathan (4) departed in haste towards the north. The cruiser Cressy (5) and the battleship Glory (6)were docked at Shanghai, China.

1. Part of the Canopus-class, consisting of the Albion, Canopus, Glory, Goliath, Ocean and Vengeance, preceded by the Majestic-class and succeeded by the Formidable-class. Ordered under the 1896 Programme. Laid down by Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Leamouth, London, England on 3 December 1896, launched on 21 June 1898, completed in June 1901, commissioned on 25 June 1901, decommissioned in August 1919 and sold to be broken up on 11 December 1919.
2. Part of the Canopus-class, consisting of the Albion, Canopus, Glory, Goliath, Ocean and Vengeance, preceded by the Majestic-class and succeeded by the Formidable-class. Ordered under the 1897 Programme. Laid down by Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness, England on 23 August 1898, launched on 25 July 1899, completed in April 1902, commissioned on 8 April 1902, decommissioned on 6 July 1920 and sold to be broken up on 1 December 1921.
3. Of the Centurion 2nd class battleships consisting of the Centurion and Barfleur, preceded by the Royal Sovereign-class and succeeded by the Renown. Laid down by Portsmouth Dockyard, England on 30 March 1890, launched on 3 August 1892, commissioned on 14 February 1894, decommissioned on 1 April 1909 and sold to be broken up on 12 July 1910.
4. Laid down at the shipyard of John Brown&Company, Clydebank, Scotland on 30 November 1899, launched by Lady Inverclyde on 3 July 1901, completed on 16 June 1903, added to the reserve fleet in 1907, decommissioned in 1909, added to the reserve fleet on 1913, decommissioned in mid 1914, added to the reserve fleet in 1919 and finally sold to be broken up to Hughes Bolckow of Blyth, Northumberland on 3 March 1920. Building costs 1.012.959-1.043.097 pound sterling. Of the Drake-class armoured cruisers consisting of the Drake, Good Hope, King Alfred and Leviathan preceded by the Cressy-class and succeeded by the Monmouth-class. In fact was this class an enlarged and improved Cressy-class design made by chief constructor Sir William White with as potential opponent the French armoured cruiser Jeanne d’Arc.
5. Part of the Cressy-class armoured cruisers, consisting of the Cressy. Sutley, Aboukir, Hogue, Bacchante and Euryalus, preceded by the Diadem-class and succeeded by the Drake-class.
Laid down by Fairfield Shipbuilding, Govan, Scotland on 12 October 1898, launched on 4 December 1899, completed on 28 May 1901 and sunk by the German submarine SMS U-9 off the Dutch coast on 22 September 1914.

Laid down by Laird Brothers, Birkenhead, England on 1 December 1896, launched on 11 March 1899, completed in October 1900, commissioned on 1 November 1900, renamed HMS Crescent in April 1920. decommissioned on 17 September 1921 and sold to be broken up on 19 December 1922.
