British river gunboat HMS Moth escorting ships between Hong Kong and China according to the Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 18 February 1938

An item dated Canton, China 17th reported that the shipping between Canton, China and Hong Kong on the 17th was completely restarted. The British river gunboat Moth (1) escorted ships from Hong Kong towards Canton to prevent Japanese attacks.(2)

1. Of the Insect-class gunboats, building ordered in 1915, laid down by the Sunderland Shipbuilding Company in 1915, launched on 9 October 1915, commissioned on 5 January 1916, scuttled at Hong Kong on 12 December 1941, salvaged by the Japanese, repaired, renamed Suma and commissioned in the Japanese navy and finally lost after striking a mine on 19 March 1945.
2. Japan and China were in war between 7 July 1937-9 September 1945.
