British Saunders-Roe shipyards intended to built submarine tanker according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 23 October 1967

An item reported that the Saunders-Roe shipyards on Wight on short notice were to start with building a 80.000 tons submarine tanker which could achieve a speed of 50 knots. Her measurement was comparable with that of the Queen Mary. Several models of the shape of the hull were already tested. It was to be in such a manner that it could steam for thousands kilometres under water without the necessity to go the surface. A spokesman of the British Department for Defence denied any knowledge of such plans.
