The building of the Russian Borodino-class battle cruisers according to the magazine Mitteilungen aus dem Gebiete des Seewesens dated 1913 No. 4

Japanese Kongo-class

An item reported that on 19 December for account of the Russian navy the keels were to be laid down of the battle cruisers Borodino, Navarin, Ismail and Kinburn (1) at the Admiralty yard and the Baltic Shipyard. With a displacement of 28.000 tons was the design speed 26,5 knots equal to the Japanese Kongo-class (2) but with a slightly heavier armament of 3x3-35,6cm/14” against the 8-35,6cm guns of the Japanese opponent.

1. Although all four were launched, not a single one was completed.
2. The Kongo-class battle cruisers built between 1911-1915, consisting of the Kongo, Hiei, Kirishima and Haruna, preceded by the Ibuki-class and succeeded by the Amagi-class had a displacement of 27.384 tons, a speed of 27,5 knots and an armament of 4x3-36cm/14” cal 45 Vickers guns. After the First World War were the ships reco5,6nstructed.
