Wages in the Bulgarian merchant marine according to a CIA report dated 4 September 1953

An item reported that a sailor in the Bulgarian merchant marine earned monthly between 450-1.000 leva, the latter salary of a captain/ Each sailor had to give a part of his wages to his family. When the sailor was abroad he was paid in the local currency of the port he was visiting getting daily 12 leva paid for food above 5-10 leva extra.
