British protected cruiser HMS Mildura visited the Dutch East Indies in 1905

An item reported that the British cruiser HMS Mildura (1)visited Tandjong Priok, Dutch East Indies on 4 October 1905.(2)

1, Part of the Pearl 3rd class cruisers consisting of the Pearl, Pandora, Pallas, Pelorus, Persian, Philomel, Phoebe, Phoenix and Psyche, preceded by the Barham-class and succeeded by the Apollo-class. Designed by Sir William White (2 February 1845 Plymouth, Devon, England-27 February 1913 London, England). Laid down by Armstrong Whitworth, Elswick, Tyne and Wear, England as Pelorus on 15 August 1888, launched on 27 November 1889, completed on 20 December 1890, renamed Mildura in April 1890 and sold for 7.200 pound sterling to Garnham, London, England be broken up on 3 April 1906. Under the Imperial Defence Act of 1887 served she most at the time in Australian waters.
2. The newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 5 October 1905 published an item dated Batavia 5th reporting the arrival of the HMS Psyche and the Mildura at Tandjong Priok. The Psyche was described as an protected cruiser of 2.170 tons armed with 8-10cm quick firing guns, 8-4,7cm quick firing guns and 3 machineguns. The Mildura was not identified bu the reporter. He wrote that she was not mentioned on the British naval list. Another Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 5 October reported her arrival, described as coming from Thursday Island, armed with 10 guns, a crew numbering 206 men including 12 officers and commanded by C.W.W. Ingram.
