Dutch anti submarine destroyer Hr.Ms. Noord-Brabant 1951-1974


Building ordered on 2 January 1948, laid down by Kon. Mij. De Schelde, Vlissingen, Netherlands with yard number 270 on1 March 1951, launched on 28 November 19532, commissioned on 1 July 1955, heavily damaged in a collision with the British bulk carrier Tacoma City on the Westerschelde off Vlissingen, Netherlands on Wednesday morning 9 January 1974, causing 2 dead and several wounded sailors, beyond repairs and stricken on 8 March 1974 and broken up by Fa. Van Heygen, Gent, Belgium. Part of the Holland-class. Displacement 2.185 (standard)-2.642 (full load) tons and as dimensions 113,1 x 11,4 x 5,1 metres or 371/1 x 37.5 x 16.9 feet. Machinery consisted of 2 shaft geared turbines and 2 boilers delivering 45.000hp allowing a speed of 32 knots and a range of 4.000 nautical miles with a speed of 18 knots. The crew numbered 247 men. Armament consisted of 2x2-12cm Bofors guns, 1-4cm Bofors anti aircraft gun, 2xquad 35,7cm/14.1” anti submarine mortars and 2 depth charge racks.
