An item reported that one large companies which accepted the order to built new steel torpedo boats asked for more time to built the boats while the steel plants were not able to provide the necessary steel. The cabinet expected that other companies would ask the same. The US department of navy decided not yet how to act. There were 12 torpedo boats under construction.(1) It was also expected that the building costs of the 6 cruisers (2) where tenders could be sent for, were significantly exceeded the approved Congress budget.
