Japanese general cargo ship Akagisan Maru 1923-1944


Laid down by Mitsui K.K. Zosenbu Shipyard, Kobe, Japan with yard number. Of Mitsui Bussan K.K., Tokyo, Japan on 12 May 1923, launched on 20 March 1924, completed on 18 July 1924 as a passenger annex cargo ship, acquired by the Japanese army on 18 December 1941 and taken into service as the troop transport IJ No. 866, participated in the invasion of Java, Dutch East Indies, given back in 1942, acquired by the Japanese army  on 5 December 1942 and finally sunk during an American air attack on 7 December 1944at San Isidro. Gross tonnage 4.634 tons, deadweight 7.012 tons and as dimensions 375 (between perpendicular)-389 (over all) x 50 x 8’6” (light)-24 (loaded) feet. Speed 10.5 (normal cruising)-12 (maximum) knots. Potential naval value AP or AK. Diesel machinery supply 489 nhp/1.800 bhp. Fuel oil bunker capacity 716 tons. At cruising speed a range of 22.000 nautical miles.
