Austrian and German merchant ships seized in Canada and Alexandria, Egypt according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated 19 August 1914

An item reported that at Calcutta, India the German merchant ships Freienfels, Trostburg, Rotenfels, Frankenfels, Kurmark and Pagenturm were taken into custody at Quebec, Canada the bark Bellas and the Austrian steamship Ida and at Alexandria, Egypt the Austrian steamship Mariënblad. A second item dated London, England reported that the Ida underway from the Mediterranean towards Quebec was declared prize while steaming on the St. Lawrence.
