Japanese cargo ship (ex-Python 1919, Corning 1919-1926, 1926-1927) Sumida Maru 1927-1944


Official number 32637. Call sign JTNB. Gross tonnage 2.022 tons, tonnage under deck 1.769 tons, net tonnage 1.183 tons and as dimensions 250.5 x 43.7 x 20.1 x 23 (moulded depth) feet. Built by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company, Manitowoc, USA in April 1919. Owned by Fukyo Kisen KK, Kobe, Japan. With 1-3 cylinder triple expansion engine. Lost probably after striking a mine laid by the American submarine USS Steelhead (SS-280) off Honshu. In 1919 of the US Shipping Board, the same year US Goverment property and between 1926-1927 of A.F. Davison and then United Kingdom-flagged, before 1926 USA-flagged.
