The Chinese government seized Austrian merchant ships according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 15 August 1917

An item dated Shanghai, China 14th reported that the Chinese government seized three Austrian merchant ships and interned them,; none of the ships was damaged. The combined tonnage of all seized Austrian and German ships was 18.000 tons.
